Last nights Monday night football game was do or die for the Chicago Bears against the Green Bay Packers and with a wind-chill factor of -15 degrees at the start of the game, these two cold trained teams were put to the test. Yet, something was working for the Bears the whole night that kept them in the game and eventually lead to their classic overtime victory. The Packers had the lead throughout most of the game and with the half time with a score of 14-3; things were certainly looking grim for the Bears. But with the playoffs on the line for this team, a quiet loss was not tolerable.
The second half of the game was all Bears and showed that the Packers defense might not be as impenetrable to the cold, and to the Bears as shown in the first half. The forth quarter was highlighted by Matt Fortes explosive 73 rushing yards and the key touchdown pushed the game into overtime and consequently up to a simple coin flip for overtime possession. With the coin flip landing on the helmet of captain Brain Urlacher and bouncing off to reveal Bears ball, fate was simply behind this team. But despite the luck behind this teams coin-calling abilities, the Bears drove down field and topped the game off with a winning field goal and with the smell of playoff contention still in the air.
