In our nations current economical struggle, many different industries are getting hit hard and for the first time, Major League Baseball saw a drop in overall attendance throughout the past season. Twenty-three of the thirty teams in the M.L.B have either froze, or reduced ticket prices to show some sensitivity in this difficult time. Yet, there are the handful of teams that dont feel that its too necessary to take a step back, and that their teams success in the year to come is enviable. The teams that I am talking about in particular are the New York Mets, and the New York Yankees.
With the New York Mets moving into their new home at Citi Field, ticket sales and season packages have increased dramatically. The increase in ticket price and neglect for seniority is leaving many lifelong devoted Mets fans at home for this next season. But the Mets arent the only culprits of this money driven scheme.
The New York Yankees acquired perhaps the three largest free agent names out on the market this past off-season. With C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira now on the bandwagon, the Yankees organization has also raised their ticket prices. With these organizations spending money like this, a playoff spot is a must, or bust for both the Amazings and the Bombers in the 2009 season.
