THRILLER HITS BROADWAY

With the recession hitting Broadway hard and shows closing left and right, many theater execs are scrambling to fill in these theaters with new productions. Now I have already spoke with you all about U2’s Spiderman Hits Broadway show that’s in the mix, but news broke out of another production that could very well steel the spotlight.

When millions of people tune in to MTV and VH1 today, they have one artist to lend these channels success to. One artist, which defined the music video and thrusted MTV/VH1 into the public’s eye. The artist that I am speaking of is Michael Jackson, and the video? Why of course, THRILLER.

Yes, Michael Jackson’s infamous hit single and video is coming to Broadway. With songs featured from Jackson’s album Thriller and Off The Wall, the music to this production will be simply slammin’.

However, critics surrounding this press question how this 6-minuet song/14-mineut long video can be transformed into a full-length, two act production. James L. Nederlander (Owner of Nederlander Theater featuring Thriller) states that Broadway Thriller will be “a horror film spoof in which a young couple are out on a date on a beautiful full moon evening, when suddenly the young man, played by Jackson, turns into a werewolf .”

Broadway has turned The Who’s – Tommy into a successful play along with the music of the Four Seasons, so one would assume that they will be able to Thrillerize the theater industry and hopefully break this drought.
