This ISN’T Spinal Tap

As summer comes close and closer, the tour announcements continue to soar as Spinal Tap announced that they will be going on tour for their not-so-rare reunion. I’m a huge fan of Spinal Tap myself but I am defiantly disappointed with how this tour is sounding. Let me elaborate a little, I don’t think there is much more metal and awesome than seeing the teased long hair, and costumes that Spinal Tap brought to light. However this tour is titled as “Unwigged and Unplugged”… now what’s fun about that?

There are definitely great acoustic performances throughout the years by rock and metal bands, but for the Tap to pull this is counter-intuitive. Spinal Tap IS plugged in (all the way to 11), and IS costumes and ridiculous stage props. Without all of that, I see them as an average 80’s metal band, but with it, I see Spinal Tap, one of the best mockumentaries ever made which also brought their great music to scene.

Enough with my rant; this tour will feature Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer and the dates are not yet certain. I hope this tour ends up being a success, I just think that any real Spinal Tap fan might also be a little disappointed in the lack of enthusiasm surrounding this tour.

That’s interesting. But I have a feeling this will add a fresh spin for a band that is really just a satire. So instead of re-hashing what they’ve already done, this could give them new material. Might not be too bad. I think a Blu-ray of the original film is rumored for release about the same time as this tour too.
