With Michael Vicks sentence drawing near an end, people are wondering if he will be reinstated into the NFL for the 09 season, or if Commish Roger Goodell will impose a one-year suspension. If this suspension does take place, the UFL has already showed an immense amount of interest in Vick.
The United Football League, which will be debuting this October, will feature four teams, Las Vegas coached by Jim Fassel, San Francisco coached by Dennis Green, Orlando coached by Jim Haslett and New York coached by Ted Cottrell. This four-team league will expand to 2010 (if it makes it there) and will provide more affordable professional football for an estimated 25,000-person crowd per game.
However, this league would definitely benefit greatly from the gossip and attention that Michael Vick would bring to the table. The conVICK, would obviously rather play in the NFL, but in order to do that, PETA and Goodell both need to be charmed and convinced that Vick has indeed changed. If Goddell does instate the suspension, I wouldnt be surprised if we see Vick become the name behind the UFL.
I believe that Vick would flourish in this league since no matter what UFL states, the talent will not compare to that of the NFL - and as 2010 comes rolling by, you may very well see Vicks UFL performance adding interest to NFL teams around the nation.
This plot sounds similar to that Adam Sandler movie… haha
Wherever he plays, Michael Vick will be heckled and jeered. Does the NFL need this circus? Who will want to cheer when he throws a touchdown pass? Not even Al Davis would take on this guy. But Al is getting pretty crazy, never say never….
Nice question. You’ll probably get 40+ replies. Here’s my 2 cents:
Vick will use the UFL for a tune up. 2010 will see his NFL return. There’s still too much potential and ‘low mileage’ to pass up. He knows he messed up bad. But life sometimes offers redemption, and if he can withstand the inevitable jeering, it will come to pass.
If Marv Albert can come through his sordid scandal and resume his career, why not Vick?
I’m a dog owner and it’s sickening what Vick was doing, but that’s what prison is for, making retribution. He can’t undo what was done, as much as he’d like to. Let the man seek his penance and get on with life.
Universally hated athlete. Lots of folks have dogs and love animals. Why support him? I think he’ll always wear that halo of dirtbag…
With the unfortunate nature of the front offices of NFL teams looking the other way, Vick will probably be back in the league playing. Let the UFL have this degenerate in their league. I cannot see allowing Vick, or any of the other felons, and repeat offenders a chance to play again. Being a pro athlete is a privilege, not a right. Codes of conduct should be stipulated and enforced across the board for all athletes. The NFL…National Felons League. One of our professional sports organizations needs to step up and set the standard for dealing with it’s players conduct off the field. Put an end to the thuggish, I’m entitled mindset that has marred sports.
R. Goodell is likely to reinstate Vick, but given his previous history with players like A. Jones, he will take his time before reinstating him.
Some team will take a flyer on Vick. Probably a 1 year, incentive laden deal.
Thanks.
Stephen
The UFL? Oh no,not a gain. Did anyone not learn from the XFL and USFL?
As regards Vick, he needs to a lowly NFL team and reinvent himself, Moss reinvented himself with the Patriots. The NFL football fan or better or worse has a very short memory, really short if you win.
Hopefully the JETS will send him a Green Limo.. pick him up and bring him to a team that could really use the likes of Vick.. just no dogs allowed! Will the UFL survive.. hmmmmm!
