John Mayer Dumped For Twitter Obsession

My last article on Shaq’s halftime tweet had a great response, so I’m going to stay on the topic and enlighten you on a story that I though was a joke at first. Allegedly, Jennifer Aniston has ended her relationship with John Mayer because of his twitter obsession. Now we all know tweeting can be quite entertaining as well as gripping, but I can’t fathom how someone could flat out be on twitter so much that it ruined ones relationship. Nevertheless, it happened.

‘Close Friends’ of Aniston reported to Star magazine that she called it quits after finding out that Mayer had spent hours on the site (www.twitter.com) despite telling her that he was too busy to contact her. The couple has been on and off since April of ’08 but seemed quite lovey-dovy at the Oscars; but let me get back to the story. A source claims that Mayer would update his twitter account at least once an hour and would sometimes disregard Aniston and neglect to call/text her back. I find this pretty comical however I suppose that there is an issue here. The source is quoted, “Jen was fuming. There he was, telling her he didn’t have time for her and yet his page was filled with Twitter updates.” (Newsvine). When confronted by Aniston, Mayer didn’t attempt to cover it up and simply said he was sorry it didn’t work out, but that was that. With the break up behind him, Mayer’s next tweet read, “This heart didn’t come with instructions.”

Let this story be a lesson to all the twitter users out there, enjoy twitter, love twitter, but just don’t go over the deep end and get dumped over it. If you would like to follow John Mayer’s comical tweets, his Twitter name is “johncmayer”, and he does update quite frequently, so enjoy!

I think that’s crazy! Why are people tweeting. Social networks are taking over people’s lives. Its interesting to see celebs fall victim to the addiction of social network sites. I guess they’re real people too. Who know too much tweeting can end a relationship

What a moron…tweet over hot sweet..he’s a nerd he does not deserve Jen…

  3. Social Media says:

The interesting thing is, it is more than likely that he will now be getting a big boost in Followers after this headline-grabbing incident…

  4. Perhaps worse is a World of Warcraft addiction. One thing is certain, if you have time for Twitter or a MMPOG, you’re probably single. Nobody likes John Mayer anyway… unless you’re a 13 year-old girl.

    Twitter can become addictive.

Of course, while John may be a great artist, clearly he is not very good as a boyfriend. Needs to get his priorities straight

What is really interesting is @mediadsl points out time on twitter is starting to take a bit out of blog time and provide two graph. (Posted at 10:23am 3/26)

My boyfriend just threatend to dump me. I don’t understand, I was in bed using my blackberry to twitter. It’s not like I had my laptop on :>)

  10. Catherine Schneider says:

I really don’t think that was the issue. People don’t have that much time on their hands. Just a good PR move for Twitter

  11. Rachel Gattuso says:

I feel a bit like Twitter is being blamed unjustly - an easy scapegoat. My belief is that the real cause was his dwindling interest to begin with - the technology was an easy distraction. Rather than facing up to a relationship he no longer wanted to cultivate, he played with a social medium. I highly doubt the culprit is Twitter.

  12. That was really very dissappointing. He does not deserve her at any cost.

One doesn’t know what happens behind closed doors.. perhaps twitter was more exciting than Jen!
