The wait is over. The game is back as opening day kicked off last night as the Braves took care of the pennant winning Phillies 4 -1. This game didnt have all that much for me besides the two fantasy players I had slugging it out, but today is another story as the Mets and Yankees look to start out the season on a good note.
The Amazins (Mets) start off the day out in Cincinnati as they take on the Reds at 1:10 PM ET as Johan looks to out pitch Aaron Harang. If you look at the history of opening days for the Mets, since 1970, they have the most opening day wins over any team. In 39 years, they have come out on top an astonishing 30 times, giving them a .732 opening day winning percentage. So I think its safe to say that theyll do whats necessary to continue the streak as well as to give Johan the wins he deserves since they simply decimated his season last year.
As for the Yankees, they look to have a solid opening day for their new ace, CC Sabathia. CC looked great all spring and is hoping to get on the good side of the New York fans, as they are sure to bring him for a ride if he underperforms. Sabathia will be matched up with Jeremy Guthrie of the Orioles at 4:05 Pm ET in Baltimore.
Both the Mets and Yankees are waiting to get back home to play their first official game in both their new homes (Mets Citi Field & Yankees New Yankee Stadium). These two clubs are really looking to have huge years as the Mets disappointed countless fans the past two years by losing the Division title to the Phillies in the home stretch of the season; as for the Yankees, theyve spent so much money this offseason that the city might go broke if they dont bring back a postseason. The Yankees also have been shut out of a World Series Trophy since 2000 and would surely like to be back on top.
Regardless of what team you root for, enjoy your opening day and welcome the great game of baseball back into your home.
As a true Met fan it was so nice to see the Phillies go down last night on Opening Day or Night! Hopefully this year the Mets won’t disappoint and bring home a Division Pennant, a Nation League Pennant and then a World Series Pennant. As for the Yanks if CC underperforms he’ll be riding the B train outa de Bronx!
of coarse you mentioned the mets first
Yes Andrew.. why talk about your team that is 0-2! Go METS!
