For those of you who don’t know the current state of the ticketing industry, local governments are attempting new forms of selling tickets to secure more seats for the fans, and less to the ticketing companies. Miley Cyrus and her billion-dollar empire was the first to try these new paperless ticket method, “The Miley Cyrus tour is a paperless ticketed tour. You will not receive a physical ticket for entry and are required to bring the credit card used to buy your tickets and a government-issued ID to the venue, where your credit card will be swiped to gain you and your party access to the event. If you do not have your credit card and government-issued ID in hand at the event, you will not gain access to the event. No exceptions will be made to these policies.” (Ticketmaster). This sounds great and dandy for the fans with credit cards however, in this first trail, some questionable tactics are being used by Ticketmaster and Front Line Management (Cyrus’ management company run by Ticketmaster).
Cyrus is having VIP packages sold on the website ILoveAllAccess.com for $295, insuring a seat within the first 25 rows, access to the pre-show parts, a gift bag, a souvenir and parking. This would all be copasetic except for the fact that ILoveAllAccess.com is run by Front Line, which is run by Ticketmaster. Thus, Cyrus is essentially scalping her top tickets to the people who are willing to spend $295, and consequently preventing some of her biggest fans from obtaining some of the best seats.
This type of hypocrisy runs in Ticketmaster’s blood and evidently in Cyrus’ too. Rather than simply selling all the seats to fans, and preventing the scalpers from profiting, Cyrus, Front Line Management and Ticketmaster will be capturing that additional revenue by adding premium packages and scalping themselves. This is a terrible choice by whoever made it… but I do hope this tid-bit reaches broadcasts so that all of Miley’s little fans can see her true goals.
[...] What is really odd is that the promoter who placed these regulations seems to also be keeping a bunch and selling tickets at a premium. As a consumer, I would buy these packages in the first 25 rows. But we want your thoughts; read on and leave a comment about whether it is a fair practice. http://blog.neco.com/2009/06/09/1927/ [...]
I’m not surprised; she’s just a big phony hiding behind a bunch of big corporate sponsors. Did you ever believe she cared about her fans?
I’m actually more concerned with the fact that you have to bring your credit card and an ID to get in. I don’t know…that just seems a little Big Brothery to me. Wouldn’t it be easier to have one piece of paper than two forms of ID?
The real problem goes far beyond the greed of an artist, although I find it absolutely unethical! If artists were not getting screwed every time they turned the corner by their labels, the P2P, rip off promoters, performance royalties never seen, large - unethical management commissions and so on and so on - then there would be no need for this crap. But, they need to make a living and the industry has made it most difficult for many of them! For those that are plain greedy, such as Smiley Miley… I suggest that people just don’t go to her shows, as well as others that do the same.
Miley Cyrus is a redneck
Ever wanted to see Celine Dion in Vegas? But couldn’t fork out TWO HUNDRED AND FOURTY DOLLARS PER TICKET?! Or Cher? Or The Eagles? Until people stop paying ridiculous prices for tickets, these prize seats are gonna go for what it would cost to feed a small village for a month. Obscene? You betcha. But this is America. We set prices with “supply and demand”.
TIckets to the sold out US OPEN Tennis Final in September are being resaled by Ticketmaster’s reseller (”Ticketscalper.com” or something like that) for upwards of FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. NFL SUPERBOWL? Same story.
Screw Hanna Montana. She’s a late-blooming butt-pimple on a small portion at best of this longstanding problem.
I got tix but now my daughter does not want to go (she wants an ipod touch instead) but ticketmaster won’t let me sell the tickets. If I do, I have to go to the show anyway to get my ID and card swiped.
what a pain in the ass.
