This past Saturday, Anderson Silva amazed millions as he easily defeated the light heavyweight Forrest Griffin. With a first round knock out, Silva has most definitely secured a spot in the highly talented Light-Heavyweight division. Silva has set a record for having 10 consecutive wins (8 in the middle weight division) knocking off opponent after opponent. With his 10 - 0 record, UFC president Dana White has announced that Anderson will be moving up a division permanently, however this may not come as a surprise as he has defeated three light heavyweights throughout his UFC career to date. With victories over Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson and now Forrest Griffin, there is only really one looming name in the division that can give Silva a stir - Lyoto Machida.
Now, Silva has said on more than one occasion that he would really rather not fight Lyoto for two reasons, “Lyoto is my friend, he is my brother and there is no way that fight will ever happen and also not just because he’s my friend. [Lyoto would] be a big problem for me.” (YardBarker). This fight is somewhat inevitable in Dana White’s eyes as he stated, “These two are friends… It has nothing to do with friendship. It’s about who’s the best. It’s about competing against somebody else, no different than a basketball game or a football game. If Anderson gets to that point where he starts taking out 205-pounders, I’ll make that fight. I promise you, I’ll make that fight.” (YardBarker). I for one am hoping that this fight does come about sooner than later. Yet, there are a list of anxious fighters looking for an upset and knockout when its their turn to face The Spider.
Take a look at the UFC 101 fight between middlewieght Anderson Silva against light-heavyweight Forrest Griffin and see him make minsemeat of this hard-chined fighter.
I think he has 5 fights left on his contract? If so, he should defend MW against Hendo, then fight GSP. After that, challenge for the LHW title against Machida. Following that, fight the Maia/Marquardt winner. Finally, provided he’s done all that successfully (which I’m assuming he would), finish off his career against Lesnar. If he wins that and simultaneously holds titles in 3 divisions, he’ll become immortal.
Silva should sit at 205 for a while I would love to see him fight all of the top light heavy weights and then drop down fight GSP and then drop down and fight Diego Sanchez, BJ Penn etc….and then drop down even more and go for some WEC fights Torres and Bowles ok just kidding….the WEC fights on Sunday were great though!!
