How Fast Top Athletes Make $100 K

I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal the other day that really struck me as shocking.  When you hear players signing for millions, its hard to understand that in smaller terms, but nevertheless this article in which I read does just that.  It breaks down how quickly some athletes in the sports world make $100 K, heres the list:

  • A-Rod - Makes $100 K in 6 pitches.
  • Big Ben Rothlisberger - Makes $100 K in 3.6 snaps.
  • LeBron James - Makes $100 K in 21 minuets on the court.
  • Tiger Woods - Makes $100 K in 11.2 holes.
  • Tony Stewart - Makes $100 K in 124.8 laps.
  • Roger Federer - Makes $100 K in 28 games of tennis.

Its pretty fascinating to see the difference of effort to make $100 K for different sports; 3.6 snaps and 6 pitches is a drastic difference than playing 28 games of tennis or turning left 124 times.  Despite all of these statistics, its still surprising how much money these athletes make in such a short amount of time which begs the question, do these athletes really need to make this much money in such tough economic times?

Well, its taken me 19 years and counting to make a tenth of that. It’s crazy to think about sports that way. If I were in their shoes, it would be hard for me to care if I was set up like that.

    That being said

Great article Justin. It’s always a little shocking to find out what these guys make in a few minutes! Of course, I’m also surprised at the “lower end” million dollar guys who - once agents and the government take their share - only make a few hundred grand…. Cool concept tho! Thanks!

Some people start working when they are15 years old.
Other people start their sporting careers at the age of 5.
Only a few of them will reach the top. Those are the athletes we look at in aw on our televisions during the Olympic games or at the world championships.
If these sportsmen and women are 35-40 years of age they will have to start their social careers.
Therefore the only possibility of earning real money will be from their 21st and 35st .
These sportsmen and women are of great value, socially as well as commercially, for they give a lot of enjoyment to people worldwide, who watch them perform. Therefore they should also benefit financially in a fitting manner.
